The (GATE) Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a computer-based test (CBT) jointly conducted by the IISc (Indian Institute of Science) and the other seven IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) at Bombay Delhi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. The GATE exam is a National level test that examines the knowledge of varied engineering topics.

The GATE exam is held every year, usually within the first and second week in February. Therefore the results are declared approximately within the third week of March. Students who seek to urge admission in postgraduate programmes and jobs in PSUs can give the GATE Exam.

There are 660 Designated Centres available for students where they can appear for GATE Examination in India. However, for the previous couple of years, the GATE Exam is now open for International Students from countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

What’s new in the GATE Exam 2022?

  • All Test Papers of GATE 2022 are going to be entirely objective. The pattern of questions may include:

  • Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions
  • Subjects like Environmental Science & Engineering (ES) and Humanities & Social Science (XH) are added. 
  • Students applying for GATE 2022 also can choose two subject papers from the prescribed set of combinations.

GATE Exam Syllabus

GATE syllabus is essential for the GATE exam Preparation if you would like to attain well. General Aptitude Section

Will consist of a compulsory General Aptitude (GA) section consisting of 10 questions. 5 of 10 questions carry 1 mark and the rest 5 will carry 2 marks each. Total marks – 15.

Marking Scheme

Two types of MCQs:

  • MCQs – 1 mark for each correct answer; 1/3 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • MCQs – 2 marks for each correct answer; 2/3 mark will be deducted for every incorrect response. There is no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions
